I have always loved to tell stories. I can remember even before I could physically write, I would ask my dad to type up stories for me on the computer, so I could print them out and make little booklets out of them. On my way to preschool, I would make up stories with my mom and they would last the whole 20-minute car ride. They were tales filled with time travel and new worlds with dragons and fairies. Throughout elementary school, I developed a love for writing short stories in class, and that’s when my love for storytelling turned into a love for writing. However, it wasn’t until in middle school that this love for writing eventually evolved into my love for writing poetry.
The first poem I wrote that I was proud to share was Fire, (featured in my portfolio). I remember I was 13 and I was actually in the shower. I had this line of writing stuck in my head for the first time. I loved that line so much and was so worried I’d forget it that I practically jumped out of the shower and rushed to my desk. From there I proceeded to write what I thought at the time was other notes for lines onto the paper, but when I stepped back and read through them all, I realized they had a cohesiveness to them, and thus my first poem was born.
Since then I’ve filled up many journals with writing and have ended up performing them at various poetry readings and slam poetry competitions. They range from all areas of my life, from recording my thoughts and revelations to general struggles of your average teenager, to discussing larger-scale societal issues that I feel moved to speak about.
One day soon I hope to collect my poems together and get published, but until then I hope you enjoy this website with my work!
